About Your Facility on the Internet?

Are your patients checking out your facility on one of the Websites currently available? In the Fall of 1998 Websites sprung up to allow consumers to gather information on hospitals. Information is gathered from the Medicare mortality and surgical-complication data to award hospitals one to 5 star ratings in 5 fields: cardiac, orthopedic and vascular surgery, and pulmonary and respiratory medicine. Additional information will be added in 1999. The ratings, along with details on each hospital, are available free at www.healthcarereportcards.com.

A private patient advocacy firm - Patient Watch - provides information on its website. For a fee you can order a rating and full profile for your hospital, including information on recent malpractice suits, specialties, services offered and ownership.
