The Medical Centerof Central Georgia

From serving the Macon,Georgia community in 1895 . . .
to serving Central and South Georgia today

For over a century, Central Georgia has depended on The Medical Center of Central Georgia for its health and medical needs. Begun in a converted school building in Macon, Georgia as Bibb County’s first hospital in 1895, more than 100 years later this 518 bed acute-care, tertiary, regional medical center and teaching hospital is recognized nationally for its excellence.

Building on that proud tradition, approximately 3,700 people in medical, administrative and support functions serve over 150,000 patients annually from a 58 county area of Central Georgia. These employees work every day to provide high quality, affordable care as well as improve every aspect of the hospital . . . its facilities, its equipment, its technologies and techniques, its services and, most importantly, their own skills and knowledge. Every employee is committed to being a little better, a little more compassionate, a little more skilled every single day. These efforts were rewarded when The Medical Center of Central Georgia was notified in 1994 it had been named one of the top 100 hospitals in the United States; one of only four in the state, and the only one in Central Georgia.

As the second largest employer in Bibb County, The Medical Center of Central Georgia and its parent company, Central Georgia Health System, bring tremendous industrial value to the Macon community. With a 1998 budget of over $428 million, including an annual payroll of over $111 million, The Medical Center’s economic impact on the area is approximately $640 million per year. The tremendous growth of The Medical Center and Central Georgia Health System has created, conservatively, over 3,108 related jobs for the Macon community.

A 100-year tradition of caring for a growing community is a great legacy . . . and a great responsibility. Focusing on being "Your Partners In Health For Life," The Medical Center of Central Georgia continues to grow as well to meet the changing healthcare needs of the community.
