At a recent conference on doing business on the Internet, Dr. James Senn of Georgia State University proclaimed, "If you are not on the Net, you may not exist!" Well, we are pleased to report that the Georgia Chapter of HFMA does indeed exist – in fact our web site just celebrated its first birthday.

The Georgia Chapter web site is quickly becoming an important distribution channel in its own right, and the Georgia Chapter WebPage Committee invites you to check us out and give us feed back as to how to make this service more useful to you.

Sam Chambers (sam.chambers@mindspring.com) is the chairman of the WebPage Committee, and webmaster of the Georgia HFMA web site. It is Sam’s expertise with hyper text mark-up language (HTML – the language of the World Wide Web) and file manipulation that keeps the site going.

But Sam doesn’t do it all by himself! The content is edited and maintained by Shawn Badinger and Mike Weathers of the WebPage Committee. They take the documents from several other Georgia Chapter committees – such as the Georgia Scroll and the Membership Handbook – and translate it into a format that works well on the web site. As always, your suggestions for improvement are needed.

The site consists of a number of pages inter-connected by hyperlinks. By Web standards, our site is fairly plain. Deliberately so! The simple, straightforward design makes construction and maintenance less time consuming. In addition, limiting the fancy graphics keeps the site small in terms of disk space required, allowing it to exist in an inexpensive web account. Another benefit to you is that the pages load very quickly on your browser – no waiting for those big graphics to load!

Among the things that you can find at the site:

Have you ever wanted to e-mail the boss with something that was in the Georgia Scroll? Starting with the July, 1997 edition, the WebPage includes an electronic edition of the Scroll. It’s now a simple matter to copy from the web and paste into your in-house e-mail system. If you are reading this article on-line, you will see that the under-lined text is a different color. Double clicking on the colored text would take you to the referenced information.

By the time you read this, we hope to have our Georgia HFMA Job Bank page completed and available on the WebPage. The Job Bank will list positions available at Georgia hospitals, as well as individuals seeking new positions. The Job Bank will be updated monthly, and will include addresses, phone numbers and e-mail contacts (when available) for each position.

So, point your browser to http://gahfma.home.mindspring.com (But hey, you're already here!) and visit the Georgia Chapter WebPage. While you’re there, add it to your bookmarks and drop us an e-mail at gahfma@mindspring.com!
