HFMA Committee Outlines and Goals

Do you know what the various committees are doing?
Do you know what committees exist within HFMA?

Whether you are a new member or have been a member of HFMA for several years. you may not be aware of all the work going on behind tile scenes in the various committees. Here's a sampling of the committees and their goals SC) char you can be informed and involved.

The Public Relations Committee is working on the GHA Convention, Summer Para-Olympics, Career Day, Georgia Special Olympics, and establishing a "Job Referral" notebook.

The Healthcare Hotline Committee is being chaired by Bob Cross this year. This committee plans to update the mailbox on a bi-weekly basis. Current events will be monitored and information will be updated on a more frequent basis if current events warrant. They will also provide the listener to the reimbursement mailbox with more information, as the reimbursement area will no longer be used for workshops, institutes, etc., and will work to complement the HFMA WebSite.

Cynthia Nesson and the Managed Care Handbook Committee have set their 1997- 98 goals as: Complete the writing of all handbook chapters. Working with a college or university for editing services, publish the book in an efficient format and market and selling the handbook to HFMA members (regionally and nationally) and all others interested in healthcare.

The responsibility of the Education Content Council is to plan and develop the curriculum for institutes. to identify and secure appropriate speakers and to approve program content. Programming must promote professional development and ensure appropriateness for continuing education credits. The Council is responsible for preparation or marketing materials and statistical reporting. They are also responsible for assisting other Councils and Committees in developing their educational programs.

The Logistics Committee is responsible for arranging all activities associated with hosting Institutes, with the exception of education content development and marketing, in the most cost-effective manner. This includes planning the menus, social and sporting events, conducting breakfasts, receptions, special events, course coordination and other activities. Education Content anti Logistics are under the Program Council chaired by Lex Klamke.

The Diversification/Integration Council’s mission is to maintain a liaison relationship with various healthcare related associations to gain support and participation in tile Georgia Chapter. specifically targeting practice management and physician groups. The Council will attain it's objective by utilizing these goals: reach out to Deans of Medical Schools-provide in-house financial education to interns and residents. Reach out to MAG-determine financial education desired by physicians and office managers. and reach out to other healthcare associations such as MGMA. HIMSS and allied health professionals (Nursing, Social Work, Therapists) soliciting their participation and attendance.

The ProAction Council, chaired by Tommy McBride, has several key goals for this year, the first of which is to respond to requests from the national office regarding national issues on healthcare finance. Federal regulations. health care reform and proposals. They will also be working to keep membership apprised of legislative and reimbursement developments as they occur. ProAction Council will develop a plan to keep local legislators informed of the strengths and political interests of the membership. They will also assist in responding to the Medicare Technical Advisory Group on Medicare Regulatory issues. The Council will develop a forum for input by Georgia healthcare providers on issues regarding government regulations and legislative activities impacting healthcare providers.

The Database Committee serves the purpose of accumulating and reporting Founders Award points, maintaining member participation records anti analyzing statistics as requested by the board. The Founders Merit Award Series was created as a way for HFMA to recognize individual members for the time and effort they contribute to HFMA and to encourage members to participate actively in HFMA functions. Many times. members are unsure of the Founders Award points they have accumulated. Beginning with the Summer Institute at Hilton Head, the registration packet will include a summary of Founders Award points. If a member is unable to attend the Institute, the summary will be faxed or mailed to them.

The Membership Recruitment and Retention Committee has several goals for the 1997- 98 year as well. The committee plans to develop a Teams "story board" directory for display at the Fall Institute; serve as coordinator for "new members" and "not-so-new members" interested in teams involvement; Teams fair at Fall institute; develop, market and deliver HFMA 101; New Member get acquainted event; update chapter history; develop event for "not-so-new members to meet with Chapter Officers and Directors; and spotlight new members and new Board members. The committee also plans to publish two articles in the Scroll promoting activities of Membership services council; develop and implement promotional program regarding Founders Awards as well as updating Founders Award brochure and update information display for the Founders Award Series and present in Institutes.

Membership committee members will also continue and expand New Member Connection Mentoring program; mail a new member packet to each new member; contact non-renewing members; send letters from President to each new member attending Institute, and make new member applications available at workshops, institutes and Lunch & Learns.
