PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Pat Hamby
President - Georgia Chapter HFMA

The Cornerstone for Success

What an honor to serve as your President for the l997-98 chapter year! And, along with this honor comes an incredible responsibility of providing leadership to our over 1,300 members, especially during this time of tremendous challenges in the health care arena.

It is hard to remember a time when combined internal and external pressures for change in health care have ever been greater. The challenge for us is that we can react to this change in a way char says the Georgia Chapter of HFMA is a place where members can get help, a place where members can get information and a place where we can be an advocate to each other.

I'm a firm believer that tile cornerstone for progress is education. n keeping with this, I would like to introduce a theme for the Georgia Chapter which I think complements the National theme "From Opportunity to Action." Together we form the cornerstone for success. One of our goals this year is to provide each and every member with educational opportunities that will assist you in your day to day work and also prepare you for the future - present opportunities to build on your current knowledge and expand your thought processes into new arenas. Financial management skills are raced top in terms of importance to success - and that's what we're all about - financial management! With the proliferation of managed care and the Merging of physician offices, home health agencies. skilled nursing facilities and the like, what an opportunity to expand the size of our membership and our educational offerings!

How can the Georgia Chapter be successful this year – your participation. The key to success is involvement. Utilize your professional talents this year by serving on a Team; submitting an article for publication; offering to present an educational session; providing financial support through our corporate sponsor program; providing ideas for beneficial projects. Whatever your talent, share it with the Georgia Chapter membership! The success of our chapter is dependent on the involvement of each and every member .

This is the year you can make a difference! We need to take time to reflect on our progress and growth. Then, continue to push forward, raising our standards!

My challenge to you this year is to make this the best year of your life - not just in terms of HFMA, but also your personal life. I’m truly proud of our past; more importantly, I'm confident of our fixture - that this will be a spectacular and remarkable year - both professionally and personally When the 97-98 HFMA year closes next May, I crust you will reflect back on your works with the Chapter and know - without any doubt - you made a difference, That's my promise and challenge to you!

Congratulations to Ginger on an outstanding year! And, a great big thank you not only to Ginger but to all the Presidents who preceded her for the foundation that has been laid for the Georgia Chapter. This foundation is what has helped to make the Georgia Chapter be a dynamic and super success but, the biggest factor to this success has been you - the members. Thank you.
