President's Message
Lee Evins, FHFMA

There was this family of skunks; a big family, so big that all the skunk names had been used up, so when Mom skunk had twins all she could think to name them was In and Out. This wasn’t much of a problem when In and Out were both small because In and Out would always be in or In and Out would always be out. As the twins grew, some problems arose. Sometimes In would be out and Out would be in, or In and Out would both be out or In and Out would both be in, so it was confusing. Well, one day In was out and Out was in and Mom said, "Out, I want you to go out and get In in". So Out went out and came back in almost immediately with In. Mom skunk said, "Out, how did you find In so quickly?" Out said, "It was easy Mom; In stincked (Author unknown)

Well, my instincts tell me this is going to be a GREAT year. I am so impressed with the caliber of volunteers the Georgia Chapter is blessed with. Not only are our TEAM chairs and other volunteers capable, they are willing as well. Thank you very much for your contribution to the Chapter.

You already know that the Georgia Chapter of HFMA is known throughout the 70 HFMA chapters as one of the most progressive, most innovative chapters in the world. The Georgia Chapter also provides as much or more education as any other chapter. Pat and her team and the presidents and teams who preceded her have left a legacy of excellence we should all applaud and strive to build on. There are several new or modified initiatives, however, which I would like to share with the members.

• Everyone in the Georgia Chapter who attains certified status by April 10, 1999 will receive a 1 oz. Silver coin called the Prospector

• Every Chapter member who shows leadership desire and ability will receive a lapel pin that says "I Believe I Can..."

You may be asking yourself, "What is the significance of the gold and silver awards just listed?" They, in fact, are very significant. The theme this year is "I Believe I Can..." I want to create an incentive for you to "Reach higher, just for one moment touch the sky" (Estefan, 1996). I want to challenge you to go for the gold, to believe that this is the year to become certified, or serve on Teams, or become faculty, or finally let it be known that you want to be one of the future leaders of this Chapter. Say with Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan from the movie Space Jams that you can beat the MonStars in your life if you ‘Believe You Can’. Say it. "I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky, think about it every night and day, spread my wings and fly away. I believe I can soar, see me coming through that open door. I believe I can fly" (R. Kelly, 1997). This is your year to do something great for yourself and for the Chapter. Believe it and you can Achieve it.
