Exciting Changes to the Managed Care Education Program

By: Marci Thomas

The Managed Care Program has undergone some exciting changes which will be reflected in the 1997/1998 Curriculum. The committee took a survey of the membership at the Callaway Institute and as a result, two new courses have been added and certain courses have been combined. These changes should help to ensure that the informational needs of our membership are being met as managed care evolves.

New course offerings are:

Courses which have been re-named or combined with other courses are:

In addition, the committee has decided not to pursue affiliation with Mercer University for the 1997/1998 year. Since the courses will no longer be offered under this affiliation we are able to be more flexible with the length of time for each course. Certain courses can more effectively be offered in a shorter time period or a slightly longer time period. This means that instead of being bound to course lengths of 3 or 6 hours, we can offer courses in increments of 1.5 hours. This change will take effect beginning in November with the Savannah Institute. Accordingly, we will convert all of the courses taken by current participants in the program from numbers of courses to credit hours with one three- hour course representing 3 credit hours. Requirements for certification will be 48 credit hours instead of 16 courses.

In order to save postage costs, the yearly Managed Care Education brochure will only be mailed to those participants on our managed care education database. These are the people who most frequently attend the managed care education sessions. If you would like a brochure, please call Marci Thomas at (404) 220-1414. They will be available at the Savannah Institute.

Course offerings for the 1997/1998 year are as follows:
