Emphasis this year is on Education: The Cornerstone for Success, and the upcoming Savannah Institute will feature educational sessions on the hottest issues in healthcare with some of the best faculty in the industry. Make your reservations now to be at the Hyatt Hotel in Savannah, November 5-7.
"How to Manage Managed Care Collections", and "How to Cope with a Medicare Fraud Audit", are two subjects that will be discussed by Mike Bednarz of Zimmerman and Associates.
A PFS session on Managed Care issues will be lead by attorney Lawrence Laddaga, who also serves as South Carolina's HFMA President. Attorney Van Reynolds will go over legal issues including bankruptcies and garnishments, and the ever-popular PFS Forum will be a part of the institute as well.
Judy Starkey, President, Chamberlin Edmonds & Associates, will do a session entitled "Welfare Legislation and the Pitfalls for Medicaid Providers", and Dr. Sammy Dixon will offer an overview of South Georgia Health Partners.
Allison Luke, of the Georgia Hospital Association, and attorney Jack Schroder, Jr. will address the General Assembly on EMTALA and SB 209. The institute will feature three PC courses on Windows 95, Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint.
Get ready for motivational humor offered up by Bryan Townsend during Thursday's luncheon. Bryan will teach a breakout session on customer service.
Courses of particular interest to CFOs will include "Debt Structure -Taxable vs. Tax Exempt Investment Alternatives", to be presented by Robert Massenberg from Wachovia. Florida HFMA is sending Butch Warren of Synergetics Software to address "Contract Management and Tracking in a Real-Time Healthcare Environment".
McFaul and Lyons will provide a speaker to lead a session on a variety of other Managed Care issues, as well as an Accounting and Auditing course on the "Standard for Fraud Audit". Other sessions will cover telephone collection techniques and customer service during collections.
As always, Certification Coaching will be offered by Greg Clark and Alan Goldberg, and Ron Houghton of DAOU Systems will discuss "Networking in the 90's".
The CPAR Test will take place Wednesday morning and the CFO breakfast is scheduled for Thursday morning. Get up early Friday morning for the Prayer Breakfast featuring dynamic speaker, Don Tomberlin, Director of Regional Outreach and Development, Memorial Medical Center, Savannah.
Time for fun and relaxation is on the program too. There will be a Wednesday night piano reception with scrumptious desserts. The popular Casino night is scheduled for Thursday evening, and will feature a hat contest.
