COVID-19

We are now in a world-wide pandemic, as declared by the WHO, with COVID–19 Coronavirus. These are challenging times for our state, our nation, the world and all we love and care for.

Our HFMA Georgia Chapter is first and foremost focused on you and your safety as COVID–19 continues to impact our world. Your all-volunteer chapter officers, directors and committee leaders are working behind the scenes to rapidly respond to our changing environment. To that end:

  • We are working on several webinars to make education events easy for those that want to participate. Please check our Events section for upcoming sessions.

  • The annual CPAR banquet will be delayed until a later date this year. We will be in communication with this year’s graduates as information becomes available.

  • We are in touch with Callaway Gardens about our Spring Institute, May 6 – 8, 2020 and while this event has not been cancelled or postponed at this time, please stay tuned and we will keep you updated as we continue to navigate the ever-changing COVID – 19 environment.

We appreciate your understanding as we rally together in this new climate of delivering education from a safe personal distance. We thank each of you for your support of our chapter, Region 5 and HFMA.

And, while we all work through the impacts of COVID-19 that are close to home, let's please also remember the HFMA Tennessee Chapter members who are also continuing to work through the devastation brought to their communities from the recent tornadoes.

Warm regards,
Bridget Cutchen, HFMA Georgia Chapter President, 2019-2020
Laurence Harris, HFMA Georgia Chapter President-elect, 2019-2020

Payer Response to COVID-19Bill Eikost, Georgia Chapter Past President and SVP of Business Development at Nemadji, reached out to his Payer Forum contacts at the major payers in Georgia for an update on how this situation has impacted them.  Most all of them said they are operating as “business as usual”.

As of Wednesday, March 25th:

Anthem / Blue Cross are up and running without any issues right now.  They encouraged providers to use the online resources that are available to them as there may be longer than normal wait times to talk to a representative.

United Healthcare is “business as usual” and to use their online resources.

Palmetto GBA is not experiencing any issues right now.  Providers should check for updates on their website.  They are taking their direction from CMS.

Medicaid(DXC Technologies) so far has posted two banner messages on their portal.  There has been some info about the waivers.

Bill
will continue to reach out to some of the smaller payers for their feedback.  Bill reminds us that everyone is adjusting every day to the demands and the changes this has presented.  Providers are encouraged to reach out to  HFMA Georgia Chapter, Georgia Hospital Association, and Bill Eikost (HFMA Georgia Chapter Past President and Payer Forum Moderator) with any concerns they have about how the payers are responding to their needs during this time.
Everyone stay well and be safe!
